Projects: Concert

A concert opera for children aged 7 and above

With a libretto by Jonathan James and lasting 45 minutes, The Griffin and the Grail was premiered at Cadogan Hall, London by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra on 20 December 2013.

It featured BAFTA Award-winning actress Olivia Colman as the Narrator, the Burntwood School Choir and the all-male RSVP Voices, and was conducted by Jonathan James.

Featuring the part-lion, part-eagle Griffin, errant Templar knights, a fearsome Wolf-Dragon and a forest full of strange creatures in the realm of King Arthur, The Griffin and the Grail is a modern fable with timeless dimensions. Enlisted by the Griffin to find the Holy Grail, two children discover valuable lessons about themselves as they find themselves involved in a remarkable adventure through time, space and the imagination.

Adrian's witty, colourful, romantic and dramatic score for full orchestra very much in the operatic tradition of Benjamin Britten brings the tale vividly to life.
